New Faculty Paper Session

Saturday Morning

Session I – UC 104

8:00-8:15 Pseudodifferntial operators on groups
Susan Córe, Smith College

Abstract: Overview of pseudodifferential operators and their calculi on euclidean space, and on groups.

8:20-8:35 A Matrix Completion Problem on P 0,1-matrices
Amy Wangsness, Fitchburg State College

Abstract:Given a graph, does every partial P 0,1 matrix which specifies the graph have completion to a P 0,1 matrix?  Results will be discussed for graphs of order 4.

8:40-8:55 Student Probability Misconceptions and (possible) Remedies
Kathleen Rondinone, Southern Connecticut State University

Abstract: Realizing my students’ misconceptions about probability, I created several activities that activate student misconceptions and also offer possible remedies.

Session II – UC 105

8:00-8:15 Nilpotent Orbits in Lie Algebras
Joe Fox, Salem State College

Abstract: In this talk, we will discuss the topic of nilpotent orbits in Lie algebras, which are very important in representation theory.

8:20-8:35 Introduction to continuous logic for metric structures
L. Pedro Poitevin, Salem State College

Abstract: We give a gentle introduction to continuous logic, and briefly explain why it is the "right" logic for metric structures in analysis and geometry.
